Life is Good – Travel To Panama

Here is help to eliminate many of your packing hassles! I have one friend who almost never travels due to the horror of packing. Most of us aren’t that overwhelmed with the packing but it can be stressful. I found this article in Travel & Leisure with great tips on how to lower your pre- travel stress with simple packing preparations. When we would travel to panama I found it could be difficult to remember all we needed and fit it all in without costing a fortune for extra baggage. Then of course who wants to lug extra stuff around with you everywhere. That can be very restrictive when you are trying to see the scenery and enjoy the journey. It took a few trips and a 1 month trip to Panama helped me pare our luggage down to the necessities. Years of traveling for business had taught me that I wanted to keep my cosmetics and bath items in my carryon. We had it all in hand and arrived at the airport in Panama to fly back to the US and found out that the rules had just changed the day before our return flight. Of course we hadn’t heard a word about it. Probably the most important travel necessity is flexibility! Carry plenty of that with you and it will go a long way toward you having a great travel experience. Fortunately on that trip we were able to repack in the airport just prior to boarding the plane. Whew!

We decided to travel to Volcan & Cerro Punta, Chiriqui at the base of Volcan Baru 2 days ago to look at an Eco Lodge to include in one of our soon to be released tours. It turned out to be an amazingly beautiful ride and the entire day was just as spectacular. I want to share some of my “windows to Panama” with these photos. This beautiful farmland is the “Bread Basket of Panama”. Remember if you are ready to travel to Panama we can help.
The colors of Panama are always spectacular!
Even when they are the shades of gray!

What next? I guess you can’t be too careful where you sit on a plane anymore. This article just struck me as bizarre but maybe that’s just since I didn’t even have internet until my kid was in junior high school. Ladies and Gentleman – just say no! Certainly you can last a plane ride without your porn.

Now the airlines have come up with 4 new things they are going to charge you for if you travel to Panama or anywhere else. Short of not flying there may be some things you can prepare for to get around these.
At a time when flying on a commercial airline has degenerated to such a point of discomfort that it is almost necessary to buy cocktails to make it through the experience the airline execs. have decided to place or raise surcharges on water, luggage, unaccompanied minors and are you ready – because you business travelers will love this – awards tickets.
See the complete report and some solutions at CNN Travel
I will be on the lookout for airlines who are doing it better and please send your comments if you know of some and have some great recent airline experiences – let’s talk coach here!

In Costa Rica, but I want to finish my stay in Colombia. Is there some sort of bus or railway that takes passengers from CR to Columbia? If not, what types of transportation is available to head that direction (south)?
Is it easy to “hop” from country-to-country, traveling freely to explore each?
I just don’t know the process, and I don’t want to be stuck in Costa Rica and having to buy a plane ticket from SJO to Bogota or Medellin.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
TICA bus has cheap reliable service – you can go all the way from Guatemala to Panama (& every country in between = Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica). Last time I checked the bus ticket for this central american trip was 72$.
There is no road connecting Panama to Colombia. The “Darien Gap” is the jungle area that blocks off the end of the Panamerican highway on the Panama side, and where it starts again on the Colombian side. It is very dangerous to go thru there (on foot) because of rebel guerrillas.
Copa Airlines has the cheapest flights from Panama City to Cartagena, Colombia (under 300$).
You can also go on a 5 day sailboat from Panama to Cartagena. This is more like an all inclusive (food, lodging) cruise experience, that stops off @ little islands along the way (for scuba diving/snorkeling) and you go with a big group of tourists. Prices are usually 250-500$ (one way).
Check the link for info on that…
good luck!

Thinking about going to Morro Negrito Surf Camp in Panama this May. Any opinions on the camp?
Thanks in advance.
I haven’t been to this camp before, but I spent ten weeks this summer surfing Panama and pretty much surfed everywhere else. For me, Morro Negrito was just too expensive, and not consistant enough to justify the price.
The more consistant spots on the Pacific side do tend to get a bit crowded– especially Santa Catalina. At the same time, I lived in Santa Catalina and surfed every day for four weeks and spent under $200.
Morro Negrito is sick, and there are a lot of good islands to surf around there. You can take a boat from Santa Catalina to access P-Land though, so if that is going off, you don’t have to be in Morro Negrito to score it (there won’t be any crowd out there).
I also recomend checking out the greater Cambutal area. There are a LOT of really good uncrowded consistant waves there. Check out Playa Guanico too, it’s near there.
If you have time and there is a Carribean swell make sure you get to Bocas del Toro too. And there are really good “secret spots” near Colon and out toward Isla Grande. Absolutely no one will be out there, but if you will have a car there, and somebody to paddle out with, I garuantee you will find sick reef– without a chance of seeing another surfer– over there. There’s not really anywhere to stay over there though.
Have a great trip Panama is really sick. Santa Catalina is a don’t-miss.
