I found this interesting article that explains the molas of Panama that have become so popular outside Panama. They do require a lot of work and the women are quite talented with the stitch work. I personally don’t own one but it’s because it doesn’t fit my decor and since I live here now I can always reconsider. I will eventually offer them for sale on this site however as I am sure I can offer good prices and they are in great demand. In the meantime please check out the Panama Travel Guide I am offering for sale. I had 2 guides when we traveled to Panama and didn’t find this one until later. We had fun traveling in Panama without the map (sometimes driving around aimlessly for hours is great) but I sure would have rather had one and this guide actually includes maps!
“Molas are the colorful, multi-layered appliqué panels of blouses worn by Kuna women of Panama. The Kuna live in a region called Kuna Yala, which means “Kuna Land.” This area, more formally known as the San Blas Archipelago, lies off the eastern coast of Panama.”
